The report warns that progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030, is insufficient. The global energy gap is still significant, and efforts to increase the use of renewable energy sources are not enough to achieve the goal. The report also highlights the negative impact of debt accumulation and rising energy prices on achieving universal access to clean cooking and electricity, which could result in 1.9 billion people lacking access to clean cooking and 660 million without electricity by 2030. These gaps will have a negative impact on the health of vulnerable populations and accelerate climate change. The WHO estimates that 3.2 million people die each year from diseases caused by the use of harmful fuels and technologies that increase exposure to indoor air pollution.
